The Passion of the Kaia

As aforementioned, Kaia and Brennan have been participating in a children's choir through school for two months. So, this past Monday was the final performance. They had eight Disney songs ready to go. Everything from "Don't Smile at a Crocodile" to "The Sun will come out Tomorrow". And, the finale was "We're All in This Together" from High School Musical (I'll have to do a separate blog about H.S.M.).
Well, it was held in the auditorium and there were about 16 kids in the choir and about 30 parents. So, it was a bit sparse. The glorious thing about 5-8 year olds is they don't care! They had an audience and it was showtime!
Brennan knew all of the words to all of the songs and did well. He smiled at appropriate intervals and looked fairly comfortable on stage. The other kids were at varying degrees of smiling and knowing the words. And then there was Kaia...
Kaia was in her element. We have never given her an opportunity quite like this and I will not make that mistake again! Kaia was the most animated and enchanting child on the stage. It had nothing to do with being cute (although she is) or knowing the words. She simply became a performer. Kaia was dancing and boogeying and shaking her hips and turning in circles and clapping her hands and twirling and grinning and thoroughly enjoying herself. Oh, and none of the other kids were doing anything more than sway a little. Kaia was completely immersed in the moment.
At the end of each song, Kaia would look out at the audience and say, "Come on everybody! Clap! Clap, everybody! You're supposed to clap now!" A couple of times she said it before the song was quite over and Brennan would lean over and say, "Kaia, you're not supposed to do that until it's OVER". He was actually rolling his eyes and seemed embarrassed of her! :) The adults in the audience were giving me varying degrees of that bemused adult look when they see childish antics. But, I was too busy being charmed by my daughter's absolute passion for what she was doing. Kaia is a born singer/dancer...PERFORMER!

Halloween photos 2008

It's a little behind, but here are some Halloween photos. This is the first year I wanted to do something less gothic (like Alice in Wonderland or a woodland fairy) and what does Kaia want? For all of us to be witches. As you will see, the girls are witches, while Brennan opted to go his own way with Peter Pan.
It was fun to go to the kids elementary school and join the festivities. Remember, in kindergarten and first grade, it is still cool to have mom show up...and I got bonus cool points for being dressed for the occasion! Halloween is my 2nd favorite holiday and this year I enjoyed it via the kids and their delight...

Brennan's Turn

Yesterday Brennan turned on the movie Sound of Music.
(they are singing Do-re-mi as one of the songs in
their children's choir, so he was interested in where
it came from)
They have never watched it before, so as the opening
credits were rolling, I explained that it took place
in Austria.
Brennan perked up and said, "I know about that country".
I know that he can name all of the continents, so I said
--Not Australia, Austria.
Then, he said, "I know...Austria...that's where Mozart is
from."
After my surprise at this accurate bit of trivia, I
apologized to him for doubting him and we proceeded to
go over a few more facts about Austria.

Kaia's latest -isms

Kaia says some random things that make me laugh...the following are from the past week or so~so, here's to hoping you have a similar sense of humor as me~

Kaia and Brennan were trying on my dresses and playing pretend. Kaia put on a little black dress that on her was an floor length evening gown. Then, she put on some black heels that are easily four inches. She came and asked "Mom, do I look Beautiful?" I told her I thought so and I asked what she thought. She said...
I think this makes me look 7...or maybe even 8!




Kaia was watching television at her grandmother's house (what I think of that is for a separate blog :) and of course every commercial was primed to sell to her age group. Kaia is an absolute sucker for mass media marketing. So, every commercial break she went to ask grandma for a particular toy or amazing childhood distraction. The way she asked was...
Can I have ___________ for my next birthday when I turn 6?
Then the next commercial break would roll around...
Can I have ___________ for my birthday when I turn 7?
And next...
Can I have ___________ for my birthday when I turn 8?

Kaia made it all the way to her 16th birthday. I guess the upside is she does not expect Santa to bring her all of these plastic prizes this Christmas! At least she was considerate enough to space them out :)



The most recent was yesterday. Kaia was coughing and she was asked why she was coughing. Kaia said...
I have a frog in my throat.
Kaia was asked how long the frog would be in her throat. Kaia said...
It will be there for 99 hours and then we have to get him out and take him back to the pond because there is a lily pad without a frog.
